Taproot a-cappella quartet, recently reunited after a ten-year hiatus, has performed on coffeehouse and festival stages all around the Boston and New England folk scene, and recorded two CD’s: If You Build It and Grand Design. Taproot delivers original, contemporary, and traditional folk songs with passion, intelligence, and wit. The voices belong to four striking women, all seasoned Boston area performers: Gail Finnie, Anne Goodwin, Rebecca Pugh, and Deborah Silverstein. Taproot performs creative a-capella arrangements of ballads, gospel tunes, sing-a-longs, and the finely crafted songs of Deborah Silverstein. Their powerful sound, emerging from a unique combination of spirited rhythm and intricately layered vocals, embraces themes from the lighthearted to the profound, resulting in a repertoire that embodies generous spirit, buoyant humor, and downright good music.
